BRIGS YOUTH SAILING

Brigs Youth Sailing: Day Sails

Experience Life Aboard a Tall Ship

Step aboard the STV Pathfinder and discover what it's like to sail a traditional tall ship. New to Canal Days this year, Brigs Youth Sailing is offering two-hour Day Sail experiences that give participants a hands-on introduction to life on the water.

Whether you're a young person considering one of Brigs' summer sailing programs or an adult looking for a unique adventure, you'll work alongside the crew to help sail the ship while learning the basics of tall ship seamanship.
What You'll Experience
Every Day Sail includes the opportunity to:
  • Check in and meet the crew
  • Participate in a safety briefing and basic sailing instruction
  • Help prepare and sail the vessel
  • Learn to haul lines, set sails, and manoeuvre a traditional tall ship
  • Assist the crew as the vessel returns to dock and is secured
No previous sailing experience is required.

Accessibility: Please note the municipal docks are not AODA accessible. Participants must be able to use stairs to board the vessel.

The programming is very hands-on as:
  • All of the programs are only for those aged 12+ and run rain or shine, so be prepared with appropriate attire if the weather predicts inclement weather. The programming is very hands-on as Brigs Youth Sailing is a sail training organization. Brigs Youth Sailing does not offer pleasure cruises.
  • For your safety and for the best experience, please determine your level of physical fitness as sails are hands-on. You must be fit to climb ladders and move around. Accommodations may be available for a variety of disabilities. To read more about what to expect, refer to the Brigs physically and mentally fit page for more details.
  • Smoking and the consumption of alcohol/other controlled substances is not permitted on board.
